Last Day in Lanusei

Took the 07:15 bus to Tocali where we rented a car to drive 2 hrs north to the Nuraghic village near Oliena in the Lanaitho Valley. This village is called Sa Sedda 'e sos Carros and thrived from about 1000 B.C. to about 500 B.C. It is located at a height of about 350 meters and about a 10 minute hike up from an 18 km long subterranean grotto. This village is, apparently, one of the very best preserved villages in Sardenia, although the one near Barumini was larger. Sa Sedda e sos Carros was inhabited by about 500 people in approximately 150 stone huts up until the arrival of the Phoenicians. They are still excavating the area, and have, so far excavated and cleaned up the remains of 5 of the huts in which artifacts of bronze and ceramics have been discovered. It is estimated that the village extended over an area of approximately 6 hectares. Tomorrow, we'll be on the 06:30 bus to Nuoro where we'll catch a connecting bus to Macomer wher we'll either train or bus the final leg of the day to Fertilia where we'll settle doen for 5 nights of celebration of Michele's 50th birthday.
