Andrea Jensen

SS Andrea Jensen
The Andrea Jensen was built entirely of oak in Denmark in 1939 to serve as a fishing vessel which she did until 1989 when Jeff, a retired professor from London, purchased her and converted her into a two-masted, six-sailed ketch. After two years, he had to return to work to continue financing the work. About 6 years ago, he and his wife, Vivian, moved to Sardinia where they set up a tour operation. Today we boarded in Alghero at 10:00 along with 9 other people (from USA (two of whom were stationed in Germany), Ireland (living in Germany for the past 16 years as an Irish pub owner in Hamburg called Finnigan's Wake), and from Netherlands). We departed the dock very shortly after boarding and proceeded around and well past Capo Caccia (reportedly the highest lighthouse in Europe) under engine power and sailed back to Alghero most of the way. We anchored for a couple of hours in a small bay within a national park where we swam in the turquoise water and ate lunch on board. We returned to Alghero at 18:00 as scheduled, but because Jeff + Vivian moor their boat in Fertilia, they asked us if we (Michele + I) would care to stay on board and sail back to Fertilia with them, an offer which we accepted without hestitation and with great pleasure. It was a great day although we did take a little too much sun, and will have to move carefully for a day or so as payment for that unintentional over-indulgence tonight.
